About Geeks on Tour

Technology makes our life possible. We have made our living as Computer professionals since the early 80s. Now, we live in a motorhome and travel the country. With WiFi and Satellite Internet, computers and cell phones, we can run a business from anywhere.

Computer Education for Travelers

Computer Education for Travelers
That is our primary business. We offer education thru seminars presented at rallies and conventions as well as Tutorial Videos on our website: GeeksOnTour.TV. These videos can be viewed online by becoming a member, or can be purchased on CD.

For nearly two years of our travels we worked for a company who installed WiFi hotspots in RV parks. We visited over 60 RV parks in a support role. We presented seminars and visited users one-on-one. We learned a LOT about what works and what doesn’t with WiFi.

We’ve been keeping a personal Blog about our journey at www.geeksontour.blogspot.com.

We take thousands of pictures as we travel and we use Picasa to manage them all.  This blog is where we post our weekly tips about using Picasa.

  1. I can link to Picasa Web Albums from my website but I can not get back to my website without going back through through all the pictures I have viewed using the computer’s “Back” button. Do you have a solution to this?

  2. I scanned my family photos over several months. They range from the 1880′s to the present. I did not scan them in historical sequence. Some came from other family members. I have now rearranged all of them into historical sequence.

However, when I burn a CD to offer to family members, the photos do not burn in historical sequence. Is there a way that I can do this. After I have spent months researching the family timeline and dates of the photos, I would not want to offer them to other family members and force them to do the same work.

  3. I just ‘discovered your site, looks fantastic, and I can’t wait to get into the tutorials. But I just downloaded Picasa 3.6 and the tutorials are for 3.5, will an update be coming soon?

    • The only visible change in 3.6 is in the import screen and that video has been updated. There are even some videos back to version 2 but they are on features that have remained the same.

  4. MY IMPORT OPTION ONLY SHOWS “NONE” OR ______ IT DOES NOT GIVE A SCANNING OPTION. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT I NEED SO THAT I CAN IMPORT FROM MY SCANNER.

    • You may need a new driver for the scanner. It should show up in the list.
Please ask your question in the member Forums (www.geeksontour.tv/forum) and we will be happy to answer further. You might even find that your question has already been answered there! Use the Search feature to find out.

  5. I have recemtly completed a trip with another couple. I would like to give them a copy of my Picasa Folder (with photos of the trip) on a CD which include two main features:

1)The photos should appear on the disk in the same order as they appear in my Folder because they are photos taken from Day 1 to Day 10

    2) I want to include the captions I have added to most of the photos in the Folder

So, my question is how do I copy the Folder to a CD so it is an exact replica of what is in the Folder.

Many thanks for any help you can provide.to enable me to achieve this objective.

  6. Hope this is how I can throw a question your way…No other part of your site jumped out at me to do this. Looking for some insight on searching.

Specifically….Picasa allows you to filter the pics by those with Faces. My goal is exactly the opposite….I want to see all the pics in which Picasa has not found a face. Seems like a simple enough search parameter….any ideas?

  7. Where is your tour schedule posted?

  8. Hi Chris,
Thanks so much for all the wonderful info you share about Picasa. I have a problem I would love for you to address ASAP.

Today, for example,I cropped a photo to 4×6 and then applied the POLAROID effect. Next, I chose FILE, SAVE A COPY. When the copy appeared in Picasa, I tried to crop it to 4×6 and 8×10, but it was neither of those sizes. If I had cropped it to one of those sizes, as a photo lab would do, I would lose part of the borders/mats. So…being able to use those special effects isn’t of much value to me if I can’t print the matted/vignetted photo in standard sizes, and, thereby, avoid having to pay high prices for custom printing. I do hope Picasa can correct this or that you can tell me what I’m doing wrong.
